Widow's Ministry

Welcome to Flames of Truth Widow’s Ministry.

All of the work we do here at Flames of Truth Ministries is directed toward the spiritual growth of the believer. We believe that being grounded in sound biblical principles which guide us in our everyday lives will result in a closer relationship with God as well as, with our fellow man. However, it is not enough that we know these principles; we must also put them into practice.  In order to achieve the fullness of joy that God has designed each of us to have within ourselves, we must go outside ourselves, to love and care for others. God tells us thru James 1:22, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves”, and in verse 27 it goes even further to say “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world”.
One area of Flames of Truth Ministries that is very near and dear to our hearts is our Widow’s ministry. Psalms 68:5 says “A Father of the Fatherless and a judge for the widows is God in His Holy habitation”. Wow, when I stop and look at that one verse, it takes my breath away. Just to think that the God of the Universe, who can breathe fire from his nostrils and bring down mountains, loves widows and orphans with such tenderness. All throughout the Bible He directs us to care for them. He also warns He will bring down His vengeance on those who would harm them.
It is with humble gratitude and great pleasure that we at Flames of Truth Ministries follow God’s directive in going out to meet the needs of widows in our community; In doing so, without fail, those precious ladies always minister to our hearts in return.
In 1 Timothy 5 God clearly tells us who we as the Church, the body of believers in Christ, should put on our widows list, as it is always the privilege and obligation of any family she may have to meet her needs first and foremost. However, God has shown us there are a great many needs among our elderly today that are not being met by family no matter how much they try to assist. Due to the ever changing dynamics of our economy, many families have to live far apart now and it becomes critical for them to have someone local who can physically check in on their loved one for them from time to time.

Some of the things we currently do in our Widow’s ministry is to make phone calls, send cards, stop in for visits, provide support during times of grief, run small errands, and even do light chores around the house that may be needed from time to time. But the most important part is that we become a friend to the widow, to share our love, a love that is Christ in us, with her, so that she has peace knowing that she is not alone.
