We are praying that God uses all the words spoken here to further His kingdom and to bring Him glory!

John 14:23-24 (NASB)  Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him.  He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me."

Conversations with God Conversations with God

Starting out Simple In a time when it seems that everything we do is getting more and more complicated, I believe there is no better time than now to “Simplify” a few things. As a new Christian, or even an older Christian who is struggling with the Word, the book of Matthew gives a great starter course (or refresher course) in our walk with God. I will keep it short and sweet in this first post, just to get our feet wet. So let’s begin. The first thing you have to start with is a call, which we find in chapter 4 verse 19. This occurs after Christ has been baptized by John and spent His time in the wilderness fasting, praying and being tempted by the Devil. In verse 19 Christ calls His first Disciples Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew. There was no long drawn out conversation, Christ simply said “Follow ME”. That is about as simple as it gets when you are looking for a starting point with God. You only have two options: follow or not follow. Thankfully, the two men decided to follow. I want to stop there for a moment and ask one question: Have you felt the call from God to follow Him? (Just think about your answer as we continue). These two men had no clue what they were getting into, but I have to believe that they did not worry about that. They felt drawn to this man named Jesus and they wanted to know what He was all about. That’s it. There was no long drawn out application process, no waiting period, not even a background check. They felt a strong desire to go with Him in their hearts, and they followed the call. Over the next few chapters, Christ began teaching everywhere he went, picking up more disciples and followers all over the place. Some of the things He taught most probably overwhelmed the disciples at first, so don’t feel bad…..you are not alone. Then in chapter six, Christ helps simplify a basic necessity of every follower’s life: PRAYER. Now, this can be a hang up for some people. You always hear that one person that can say the most beautiful prayers in the church, then you hear people like me pray. Let’s just say that when I pray, it is over real quick. I am not bashing the eloquent prayer, but what I am telling you is that it doesn’t need to be a hang up for you. Christ tells us quite simply in verses 9-13 of chapter 6 to pray simply to thank God for His provision, pray to ask forgiveness and to pray for His guidance. As you get more comfortable talking with God on a daily basis, your prayers will get stronger and longer. Trust me, God knows what you need before you ever open the prayer up. So it is ok to be simple in your words. He just wants to hear from you. If you have trouble voicing your prayers, write them down. I firmly believe that you can have written prayer and it is just as effective. Like I said earlier, God already knows what you are about to ask, He just wants time with you. Let’s stop there for now. I want to go back to my earlier question. Have you felt God calling you? If so, what is the call? Is it a call to salvation, or a call to action? If it is a call to action, then I can only tell you to continue to pray and ask God to steer you in the right direction. If it is a call to salvation, I urge you to go to the home page of this website, and click on the link for Steps to a Savior. Also, if you need to speak with someone regarding salvation, send an email and I promise someone will contact you quickly. It is that simple. Now if you don’t mind, let’s pray together: Father thank you for this opportunity you have given us to journey together through this post. I pray Lord that the only thing any of us see through this is you and your plans for us. God it is my prayer that you will strengthen each of us as we study, and that we have the strength to resist Satan as he tries to distract us from your word and your commandments. Strengthen us daily God, and forgive us where we fall short through or s
